Each story is as individual and as special as each human being whose story it is! To counseling with children who exhibited so much maturity and understanding in the midst of losing their beloved grandmother … who had adopted them as her own children, the stories are many. From the courage of an elderly patient who chose to live her life expressing love and tenderness to each of our team for her gratefulness for all the things she did have versus focusing on all of the things she had lost.

Little did I know, that the patients I served would not only impact MY life in ways I never expected, they would inspire me to be better, to be more conscientious, to listen more attentively, to care more, to appreciate life more, and to experience the blessing of participating in one of life’s most intimate events.įrom meeting a patient and family who lived 45 miles “off the grid” with no electricity or running water, to meeting a patient who chose to utilize the death with dignity option, my experiences as a Medical Social Worker have inspired me in ways I find hard to express. Having worked most of my career in child welfare and juvenile mental health, I had hit a wall, and wanted the opportunity to impact lives in a more positive way. I came to Heart ‘n Home because I wanted to do something more “pastoral” in my work as a Social Worker and wanted to feel like I was making a bigger difference in peoples’ lives.
